Charities in Arizona
The first nonprofit in Arizona is The Associated Charities of Nogales, founded on September 30, 1926, by Theodore Gebler, who's will left funds to support community charitable work “in perpetuity”. Mr. Gebler settled in Nogales initially opening a hardware store and eventually served as Director of First National Bank. Nearly a century later, The Associated Charities still provides support to local charities and students!
Today there are over 25,000 nonprofits in Arizona employing over 300,000 people. Theodore’s grassroots philanthropy is honored in the same spirit with State approved legislation (1998 and 2012) that enables Arizona taxpayers to receive a tax credit for financial donations to certified charities in Arizona, called QCOs and QFCOs.
The Arizona Department of Revenue lists over 1,300 qualified charities and foster charities. The PDF file has the charity tax code, name and address only.
AZTaxCreditList.com is the best way to review these same charities. We researched each to create a free online directory that details what they do, who they help, and the benefits provided.
